Impressive flocks of starlings gather above the reed beds before descending to roost. Look for fieldfare and redwings in scrub and hedges; ploughed fields hold small flocks of golden plover and lapwings.
The sea of Start Bay attracts small groups of scoter, passing gannets, and, at times, all the British grebes and divers.
Bittern is a regular visitor to the reed beds and you may catch a glimpse from Slapton Bridge if you are lucky. Firecrests forage amongst the ivy covered trees along the nature trail.
From February, herons and ravens are nest building in the Ley-side woods.
