Field Studies Council: Bringing Environmental Understanding to All

Volunteering

We are looking for support in lots of different areas, from driving minibuses and helping to care for the reserve, to working in the library or in our beach trailer.

We also need support with admin, marketing, within our education department, delivering activities and workshops to children and families, data collation and analysis, we may start a community garden to grow food for the Centre… the list goes on!

By volunteering you can really make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.

Volunteer Placements and Long-Term Volunteering

We have lots of different long term volunteering opportunities that can be a great stepping stone into careers within the sector. Volunteer placements usually last for approximately six weeks and long term volunteering can be for up to six months.

Action Days

Once a month we hold and Volunteer Action Day. People come along and support our regular volunteers on projects that might require larger groups of people. It’s also a great opportunity to see what is happening here at the Centre.

Kama-yoga

What is Kama-yoga? Karma yoga means selfless service - but it goes beyond the common understanding of ‘volunteering’ or ‘charity work’.

Karma yoga requires us to do our best, to concentrate on the job in hand, and to cooperate with others. The practice of karma yoga forms the essential basis of a strong, happy and harmonious community. We’re trying this out at the Centre through engaging visiting residential groups in eco-campaigns like recycling and supporting their own residential experience.

  • Litter pick/ Beach Clean (it only takes a second to make sure litter is placed in the right bin)
  • Recycling
  • Weeding the garden (make sure you know what’s a weed!) On Tuesdays after 8pm why not help in our ‘veg patch’
  • Dirty cups – bringing then to the kitchen from their rooms and labs.
  • Twitter/ Facebook – Link in and share what you have learnt here at FSC Slapton
